Cleansing is the foundation of skincare. Get it wrong, and even the most expensive serum cannot fix the damage. Get it right, and everything else works better.
Match your wash to your skin
- Oily / acne-prone: gel or foaming cleansers with salicylic acid or niacinamide.
- Dry / sensitive: cream or milk cleansers; avoid sulphates and high-pH soaps.
- Combination: a balanced gel cleanser, mild and pH-friendly.
- Mature: hydrating cleansers with ceramides or hyaluronic acid.
How often is enough?
Twice a day. Morning to refresh, evening to remove sunscreen, makeup, and the day’s grime. Over-cleansing strips your barrier and triggers more oil production — the opposite of what you want.
Double cleansing — do you need it?
If you wear sunscreen daily (you should) or makeup, yes. Start with an oil-based cleanser to dissolve oils and SPF, then follow with your regular face wash to clean the skin itself. Twice the work, ten times the result.
Skip the harsh scrubs and bar soaps. Your face is not a frying pan. Treat it gently and it will repay you.
